Creating content every week for your church’s social media channels can be a difficult task. However, there’s one way to get all the content you need for a week with one simple trick. It’s a trick that I learned while having lunch with a former social media staffer for a large church. When he told me what his secret was to getting content, I was dumbfounded how easy it was and knew that I had to share it with you.
In fact, what is so great about this one little trick, is that it’s repeatable week after week. Every week you can do this one thing and create some really interesting content for your church audience. Are you ready to learn this repeatable and content generating trick? Here it is…
Conduct an interview with your minister.
Really, that’s it? Yes, it is. By conducting one interview with your minister each week you can create engaging content for your audience that will last all week. Here’s how you do it.
Have your minister sit down a day or two after Sunday’s worship service (don’t wait too long, you want their last sermon to be fresh in their head) and conduct a short interview about what they spoke on. Just ask five questions about the sermon. Here are a few sample questions to get you started:
- What did you read to prepare for last Sunday? Is there anything that you read that surprised you?
- If a church member wanted to deeper into the sermon, what do you suggest they read? Why?
- If there was one takeaway that you wanted for our congregation, what would that be?
- How are you applying this sermon to your life?
- What can the congregation look forward to for next week? How can they prepare their hearts to hear from God?
Now think about it, with one single interview you just created one weeks’s worth of content. How? Well for one, take those answers and transcribe each of them into separate blog posts. Now, you have one blog post for each day of the week (assuming you don’t post on Saturday or Sunday).
Now go back and look at the interview again. Are there quotes that are tweetable from your interview? Can you take those quotes and attach a picture to them and put them on Instagram? You can also take those quotes and pictures and now cross-post them to Facebook and Google.
So from one interview, you get five blog posts and quotes for Twitter and Instagram. That’s a lot of content from one interview!
So what’s next? Take a moment and schedule a time with your minister for an interview. If it goes well, make it a regular occurrence and get that content out to your audience.
